Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs in Potsdam, NY
Below we will review answers to some of the most common questions that patients have about their cosmetic dental treatments:
When will I see the results of my teeth whitening treatment?
You can begin to see results directly after an in-office whitening treatment. Alternatively, you will begin to see results from take-home teeth whitening after a couple of weeks. While take-home whitening can take more time, it benefits patients with tooth sensitivity.
Do I need dental bonding or porcelain veneers?
We recommend malleable tooth bonding materials for patients with tooth gaps, chipped teeth, and single-stained teeth. Porcelain veneers are shells that can cover one or all of the teeth in the smile line, addressing slightly crooked teeth, discolored teeth, and tooth damage. Dental bonding is a more economical treatment than veneers, but veneers can be more stain-resistant and often last longer than bonding.
How long is Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign treatment times can vary from patient to patient. The length of Invisalign treatment can depend on the patient’s orthodontic problem, how patients care for their aligners, and how long patients wear their aligners each day. Additionally, patients may require more time if they need attachments to add more pressure to certain teeth. We can give each patient an estimate of their treatment time. On average, patients can undergo Invisalign treatment over 6 or more months.
Does dental bonding look natural?
We color-match tooth bonding material to the treated tooth or adjacent teeth to ensure that the bonded tooth looks as natural as possible. Dental bonding treatment uses malleable resin or composite that creates a seamless look for patients with injured or stained teeth.
Can you whiten injured, discolored teeth?
If you sustained a hit to your tooth and it turned grey or darkened, we will recommend dental bonding or porcelain veneers to brighten your tooth. Injured and discolored teeth do not react to whitening treatment because stains are intrinsic or within the tooth. Covering damaged teeth with veneers or bonding material can also protect the tooth and create more tooth structure if there are chips or fractures in the enamel.
